Adoption Process

The adoption process has multiple steps that must be completed before you are able to adopt one of HPCH's animals.

Step One: Find an Animal

If you are interested in adopting one of HPCH's animals, please fill out the non-binding adoption application (located to your right) and email it to us at hpch.adoptions@gmail.com. The more details you can provide, the better picture we are able to have of you as a prospective adopter.

Once your application has been submitted, it will be promptly reviewed. Please give us at least a week to get back to you as we review all of the applications. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis and it doesn't guarantee you'll be able to adopt that animal; rather, the home that seems to be the best fit for the animal is chosen. One of our adoption coordinators will call you to do a phone interview.

Step Two: Schedule a Meet and Greet

The next step is to visit with the dog at an adoption event or to set up a Meet and Greet at a convenient time for you and the pet's foster parent. At the meet and greet there must be mutual chemistry. Meaning both you and the dog and/or cat must pick each other. We strongly suggest that if you currently own dogs that you bring them with you so that we can make sure proper introductions are done between the dogs and to make sure they will be able to coexist with one another. If you decide to pursue your interest in a particular animal after meeting him/her/them, we then schedule a home inspection. Many times this can be completed at the time of the Meet and Greet.

Step Three: Begin Two Week Trial Period (Adopt Animal)

One you've found the right animal for you, you're ready to adopt! In total, this process will take about an hour.

Requirements:

  • You must have spent at least 30 minutes with the animal you want to adopt.

  • You must fill out our adoption contract.

  • You must be at least 21 years of age.

Our adoption fee ranges from $250-$450 depending on the animal in question. This fee includes:

  • spay or neuter surgery

  • first or more vaccinations

  • first or more deworming treatment

  • microchip

Accepted forms of payment include cash, PayPal or check payable to: Hoofs, Paws, and Claws Haven.

Step Four: Follow the Post-Adoption Instructions

  • We will check in on you periodically during the two week trial and once you inform us that adoption is OFFICIAL, we do a happy dance!

  • We will remain in contact for the first few months after the adoption to ensure your newly adopted pet is working out in your home.

  • If you need any help, please email us at: hpch.adoptions@gmail.com

Dont forget to send us updates of you and your pet! We love to see how you are doing. It makes us feel all gooey inside to know that our animals are in a fantastic forever home.
